In California, in a small town called Santa Mira, strange things happen.
The abnormal behaviour of some of their patients are intriguing, Dr. Miles Bennell (Kevin McCarthy) and a psychiatrist, Dr. Kauffmann (Larry Gates). People no longer recognise their family. A friend of Miles, Jack called, to show him with horror that in his greenhouse, in a large seed pod, an alien plant spore assimilate his physical carasteritic but it is not fully developed. Miles is a powerless witness to all these transformations and he can do nothing only flee and try to give the alert out of the city and its surroundings and try to stop the invasion.
En Californie, dans la petite ville de Santa Mira, des choses étranges se passent. Le jeune docteur Miles Bennell (Kevin McCarthy) et un psychiatre, docteur Kauffmann (Larry Gates), trouvent le comportement de certains de leurs patients, anormal. Ils ne reconnaissent plus leur famille. Un ami de Miles, Jack l’appelle pour lui montrer avec horreur que dans sa serre, dans une énorme cosse, un être extraterrestre prenant son apparence est en pleine métamorphose. Miles, impuissant devant toutes ces transformations, ne peut que fuir et tenter de donner l’alerte hors de la ville et de ses environs.
The shooting was near Los Angeles, in Sierre Madre in less than a month. It is based on the novel by Albert Finney published in 1954 and with the same name as the movie.
