Mike Cole (Nicolas Cage), professor, lives in New York with his wife and his son Charlie (Jack Fulton). In the evening of Halloween, Mike goes out with his son to see the parade and costumes in the streets of the city. Charlie sees strange things in the sky and in the street that his father do not see.
The child asks him to pay the ghost then, he disappears. One year later, a few days before Halloween, Mike always searching for his son, begins to see him everywhere. He investigates on an old Celtic legend and discovers that the children taken are able to reach out and be rescued only 24 hours before halloween or he will be lost for ever.
Mike Cole (Nicolas Cage), professeur, vit à New York avec sa femme et son fils Charlie (Jack Fulton). Le soir d’halloween, Mike emmène son fils assister à la parade et les costumes dans les rues de la ville. Charlie remarque des choses étranges dans le ciel et dans la rue que son père ne voit rien. L’enfant lui demande de payer le fantôme puis, il disparaît.
Un an plus tard, quelques jours avant halloween, Mike toujours à la recherche de son fils, commence à l’apercevoir un peu partout. Il enquête sur une vieille légende celtique et découvre qu’il ne lui reste que 24 heures pour récupérer Charlie ou il sera perdu pour toujours.
