During a kinapking raid to deliver hostages in Arizona, the special agent Kate Macer (Emily Blunt) and her partner Reggie Wayne (Daniel Kaluvya) discover a dozens of corpses in the walls of a house. Her boss recommends her to Matt Graver (Josh Brolin), a CIA special officer undercover, to incorporate the team and to get back the boss of the cartel, Manuel Díaz to El Paso, Texas.
On the plane, she meets Allejandro Gillick (Benicio del Toro) and she learns, they are going to Juárez, in Mexico to extradite Díaz brother, Guillermo.
