Max Rockatansky (Mel Gibson) has lost everything he owned, a wagon pulled by camels. He was attacked by Jedediah (Bruce Spence), a marauding pilot in the flying machine with his son. Continuing on foot, Max follow their trail to a community called Bartertown led by Aunty Entity (Tina Turner), who established a semblance of society by introducing barter instead of robbery.
This commercial city is powered by a methane refinery produced from pig feces. Aunty Entity sees in Max a wonderful fighter and she asks him to kill those who extract methane, because when they are in conflict with her, they cut the power of Bartertown, no more electricity. All confrontation ending in a duel to death under the Dome of Thunder.
Max Rockatansky (Mel Gibson) a perdu tout ce qu’il possédait, un chariot tracté par des chameaux. C’est Jedediah (Bruce Spence), l’homme à la machine volante qui l’a agressé avec son fils. Continuant à pied, max arrive à la communauté de Bartertown dirigée par Entité (Tina Turner) qui a établi un semblant de civilisation en introduisant le troc à la place du vol.
Cette ville commerçante est alimentée par du méthane produit à partir du lisier de porcs. Entité voit en max un merveilleux combattant et lui demande de tuer ceux qui détiennent le méthane, car au moindre conflit avec Entité, ils coupent l’alimentation de Bartertown. Toutes les querelles se terminent par un duel à mort sous le Dôme du Tonnerre.
